Installation & sign-in
Choose desktop, web or Android, then confirm where your work will run.
Temporary service domain#
MATLOOK online services temporarily use ai.z-group.cn with the existing accounts and platform quota. Install a client that supports the new endpoint and sign in to the same account. The updated client retains the existing local data space; do not re-import or delete your data. Older clients may still contact the previous domain; use the new site to obtain the installer for your platform. A compatible switch back will be arranged after the original domain recovers. Browsers require a new sign-in on the new domain.
Phone sign-in and password recovery#
Registered phone numbers can receive a login code. Legacy verification flags are updated only after valid proof; pending accounts still require approval. For password recovery, enter the registered phone number, verify its SMS code, then set a new password without an email address. Email accounts retain reset links. Resetting a password revokes existing sessions. Request acceptance does not prove delivery; retry later or contact support if no code arrives.
Bundled Git Bash on Windows (RC45 onward)#
Windows packages include Git and Git Bash. A normal installation needs no separate Git setup or system PATH change. Setup initializes and checks the bundled tools before finishing. Existing valid custom Git Bash paths remain supported. If “Repair Git Bash” appears, reinstall the complete MATLOOK package or select an existing Git Bash. This differs from the installer's file-write error: check target-folder permissions, free space and file locks, and do not ignore the error. See the release verification record for actual Windows installation coverage.
Before you begin#
Have your MATLOOK Agent account ready. Desktop targets are macOS and Windows 10/11 x64. Choose an installer that matches your processor architecture. Use the current MATLOOK Agent download page, which may require sign-in.
Install the desktop app#
- Sign in on the MATLOOK Agent website and select the correct operating system and architecture on the download page.
- On macOS, open the package and place the app in Applications. On Windows, follow the installer.
- Open MATLOOK Agent and complete account sign-in. Contact your organization administrator if the account is awaiting activation.
- Confirm the execution target is your local computer, then select a workspace.
- Check your model connection in Settings → AI. An unconfigured model does not prevent local knowledge full-text search.
Some prerelease packages are not signed or notarized. If your system displays a warning, verify the source, version and your organization's installation policy. Do not disable system-wide security protections.
Use the web app#
Open MATLOOK Agent and sign in. Choose the online experience to use cloud resources, or connect to your computer for remote access. Remote access requires the same account and enabled workspace synchronization on that computer. A web page cannot directly read an arbitrary local folder.
Use Android#
Install the version provided through MATLOOK Agent's Android download entry and sign in with the same account. Enable workspace synchronization on your desktop first. See Android.
Check your setup#
Identify your account, execution target, workspace and installed version. Desktop and cloud releases can differ. This guide reviews relevant RC42 changes; older demonstration screenshots come from RC35/RC36. The installed version determines available controls.
Uninstall and reinstall#
Quit from the app menu first, then use Windows uninstall or move the Mac app to Trash. User-directory data is retained by default, so a reinstall can reopen existing workspaces and conversations. Copy user data after quitting if a backup is needed. Account deletion and data cleanup are not uninstall steps.
The rc.74 Windows release also removes legacy per-user shortcuts and matlook:// registration only when their executable target belongs to the installation being removed. Upgrade does not perform this uninstall cleanup. Native Windows 10 installation, uninstall and reinstall have been verified. Mac remains on rc.73, and Windows 11 hardware acceptance is deferred.
Automatic protection of legacy Windows installation data (rc.78)#
Quit MATLOOK normally, then run the new installer. If an older version kept user data inside its application directory, setup makes an independent backup and verifies every file before archiving the original under MATLOOK-Recovered-Data beside the installation. Upgrade continues only after verification. Original file permissions are retained and backup permissions are checked. Existing sessions are not overwritten by the archive. Both copies remain, including copies from earlier attempts. Recovery works offline and does not require a remote desktop connection or uploading user files.
The rc.78 uninstaller performs the same protection. If an older uninstaller is blocked by legacy data, run the new installer in recovery-only mode, then retry the old uninstall entry. In Command Prompt, use the full installer path, for example "C:\Downloads\MATLOOK-0.5.0-rc.78-x64.exe" /repair-legacy-data, select the relevant installation directory and continue. This mode exits after verified archiving without installing or uninstalling the app.
If setup reports running processes, insufficient space, permissions or linked directories, resolve the reported condition and retry. Do not delete legacy data to bypass the check. A failed recovery stops installation or removal and retains existing copies. Availability and native acceptance are recorded for the actual downloadable release.
